ABOUT

From Paint to Jewellery

The aim of my work is to extract details from traditional Russian decorative art and transform them into contemporary art jewellery. In the history of decorative arts, painting on objects was often deemed as a female craft and a peasant art. Yet without the decorative paint, the objects have no identity. My work intends to decorate the body with the detail of the brush stroke.
In my exploration for traditional decorative art, I discovered the Russian folk art ‘Khokhloma’. This traditional painting technique from the 17th century was practised by women and reflected people’s love for nature and their quest for beauty. The decorative detail of the brush stroke became the focus of my work. Using Acrylic paint as my main medium, I want to embrace the decorative detail by transforming the brush strokes into ‘wearable paint jewellery’.

Perfect Strangers 2017

A selection of my brush stoke collection was exhibited at Perfect Strangers at Munich Jewellery Week 2017. The Perfect Strangers exhibit has brought together the works of 10 artists to celebrate the unconventional, non-traditional, and unexpected by facilitating a chance interaction between eleven strangers, all international Contemporary Jewellers working with experimental materials and techniques.

A 24-hour window display created a fresh and fleeting moment for these perfect strangers to empower each other.
